Find Crawford Court Records

Start any Crawford case lookup at the Dawes County courthouse. Crawford sits in Dawes County, and it is the County Court clerk there who holds the local case files, even when the trouble began with a city ordinance ticket. The municipal code can tell you what a Crawford rule says, but the docket itself lives in the county system. To reach Crawford court records, you can use the statewide case search, the online court calendar, a free terminal at the courthouse or a law library, or a call to the clerk. Have a party name or case number ready, then pick the court level that matches the matter.

Crawford Code Versus Court Records

The city's own municipal-code index answers a different question than a docket does. It is a legislative document, not a portal to court records. The index carries a warning. The online version may lag behind current revisions. For the definitive text of a Crawford ordinance, go through the city's code contact listed in that source. For a filed Crawford case, go through JUSTICE or the clerk. Two separate questions, two separate routes.

Crawford sourceWhat it can establishWhat it cannot establish
Municipal-code indexPublished city ordinance material, subject to its revision warning.A court case’s setting, outcome, payment, or Register of Actions.
JUSTICE / County CourtPublic court case information, calendar links, and clerk-record routes. The definitive current wording of an unamended Crawford code provision.

A Crawford court record, then, needs a court identifier to be findable. The city name alone tells you nothing about which court held the matter or whether a case was ever filed.

Inside the Crawford Municipal Court

Crawford has no separately searchable municipal court or municipal docket of its own. The absence of a city court page is not evidence either way. Under Neb. Rev. Stat. § 24-517, prosecutions of city and village ordinances fall within County Court jurisdiction. That is subject to the statute's terms. So a prosecuted Crawford ordinance matter becomes a Dawes County Court question. That is where the record sits.

This is also why a quiet municipal website should not be read as proof that no Crawford court record exists. City legislative records, a payment instruction, and a public Register of Actions are three different things. The County Court clerk can handle a focused question. That might mean a Crawford case number, a copy request, or a court setting. City-code updates, by contrast, stay a municipal-government matter.

Crawford District 12 Court Map

Crawford is one of Dawes County's three incorporated municipalities. The 2020 Census count was 840. The NACO county profile shows 780 for 2025. Those small numbers explain why Crawford research points to the county court structure rather than to a separate courthouse. Dawes belongs to Nebraska's 12th Judicial District, whose official directory identifies the Chadron court location and the clerk contacts that serve Crawford court records.

The official District 12 map and directory lays out that regional court context.

The map places Crawford inside the regional court system. It does not show a Crawford city court or a separate Crawford docket counter. County-level locations serve the city instead. For City Hall contact details, the city itself is the place to ask.

Finding Crawford Court Dates

For a Crawford court date, use the Nebraska Multi-Court Case Calendar as the statewide schedule route. Choose County Court or District Court, select the relevant Dawes court, and search by current or future date or by a last name of at least two characters. Crawford court dates belong to this state calendar and clerk-confirmation process, not to an identified Crawford municipal calendar.

The calendar has an accuracy and coverage warning. A no-result response does not prove there is no Crawford setting, and a calendar event is not the full court record. The Register of Actions tracks chronological activity, while the calendar shows published scheduled matters. Call County Court at 308-432-0116 before relying on a Crawford hearing date.

DateCurrent or future Crawford-related setting date published in the statewide calendar.
TimeThe listed event time, which should be confirmed when an appearance matters.
Court typeCounty Court for many Crawford traffic and ordinance matters, or District Court for district matters.
LocationThe calendar’s published location information, subject to clerk confirmation.
SettingA scheduled court event whose meaning follows the court’s entry label.

Crawford Court Calendar Limits

Two practical limits shape a Crawford court calendar search. First, the public calendar is a schedule tool, not a full case-history service. Second, it covers current and future dates only, not an unrestricted historic search. Dawes is not among the district courts the calendar excludes. The Dawes selections are the right ones to use. Even so, that is no guarantee. Not every Crawford hearing, restricted matter, continuance, or internal court event gets published.

Calendar
A published list of scheduled cases that can be searched by date or last name.
Register of Actions
The Crawford case’s chronological list of public court activity in JUSTICE.
Entry date
The date an action entered the register, which can differ from the scheduled event date.
Restricted
An access limitation that can prevent a Crawford case or document from appearing publicly.

When a Crawford calendar result shifts or disappears, ask the appropriate clerk what happened. The hearing may have been continued, moved, restricted, or left off the public display.

Crawford Traffic Ticket Lookups

Crawford traffic cases live inside the Dawes County Court system. The public case path runs through JUSTICE. You can search by party name. A citation number works too. If you have a court case number, that also narrows the results. When the case-type list is dynamic, select County Court with Traffic. The Crawford court record you pull may include the Register of Actions, hearing dates, a plea, the disposition or outcome, costs, and payment information. That depends on what public access permits. The court offers no official Crawford citation lookup or payment portal. Even if a local payment route exists for a qualifying matter, it stays limited. It would not reproduce the full public court docket. Neb. Rev. Stat. § 18-1729 permits a local violations bureau for qualifying nonmoving traffic matters. Crawford publishes no bureau details, hours, eligible offenses, or payment method. Follow the instructions on the citation itself. Then confirm with County Court. After you locate the Crawford case, Traffic Court walks through the county-wide court-record distinctions.

Crawford Citation Payment Gaps

Three Crawford amounts get confused for one another. A citation fine or court cost belongs to the case. A $17 one-time JUSTICE search charge is an access-product fee. A clerk copy or certification charge is a records-service fee. So no single "Crawford traffic records fee" exists. The county provides no online Crawford payment service.

ItemCrawford court-record meaning
Citation amountCase-specific financial obligation, confirmed from the citation or court record.
JUSTICE searchPublic case-search access product, currently $17 for one-time search results.
Copy serviceClerk record service, separate from the citation and search-access charges.

A payment entry can appear in a public court record. Even so, it does not replace clerk confirmation of a Crawford court date or disposition.

How Crawford Cases Reach the County

Crawford has no public municipal docket that feeds these records. Under § 24-517, a city ordinance prosecution lands in Dawes County Court. That same court takes traffic cases, misdemeanors, small claims, probate, juvenile matters, adoption, guardianship and conservatorship, qualifying civil claims, and felony preliminary proceedings. So the County Court choice is the right first stop for a Crawford ordinance or traffic record.

Docket flow: Crawford ordinance or traffic matter › Dawes County Court › Dawes District Court if the matter proceeds at the district level.

A later district docket can follow once felony preliminary proceedings are bound over, or it can involve another district-level matter. Appeals from most County Court matters go to District Court. The statewide Docket Search page explains the fuller range of search channels.

Crawford Court Record Clerk Contact

Crawford itself posts no separate municipal court clerk contact. For a Crawford County Court record question, the clerk is Joni Roberts. She serves at Dawes County Court. The court sits in Suite D at 451 Main Street in Chadron, telephone 308-432-0116. That office handles a specific record, copy, citation case number, or setting question. It is not a Crawford City Hall contact.

For a district-level Crawford case, contact Celeste Cattin, Clerk of the District Court. Her office is in Suite B at the same Chadron address, telephone 308-432-0109. Make any request narrow. Name the court level and the party. Add the case number if known, the date range, and the exact document or court event you need. Courts can provide copies identified by case number. They will not certify a broad "no record found" result.

Who Can See Crawford Court Records

Crawford court records follow Nebraska's public-record and court-access rules. The Nebraska Public Records Act sets the general inspection and copy framework. It appears at Neb. Rev. Stat. §§ 84-712 to 84-712.09. Judicial Branch Rule § 1-805 treats several electronic categories as public when available and not restricted. Those include case summaries, registers of actions, calendars, and eligible document images.

Access is not unlimited. Some records stay closed. Juvenile matters, sealed cases, protected information, and restricted documents may be unavailable or only partly indexed. A public docket entry does not guarantee an image, transcript, audio file, or certified copy. A formal written request can seek an eligible court record. But it cannot override a sealing order or confidentiality rule.

Crawford access reminder:

Use the public index first, then distinguish a “not viewable” result from a true no-result search.

Give the clerk the court, case number, date range, and record type for a focused request.

Neb. Rev. Stat. § 43-2,108 imposes special limits on juvenile information and reports.

Crawford Court Record Verification

Crawford has a real municipal-source gap. The city code publishes no street address, telephone number, court portal, or public citation service. That gap is a reason to verify. Check a city-code question with the city, and a court-record question with Dawes County Court. It is not proof that a Crawford office or a court case is missing.

Keep a note of your search date, court type, filters, and case number. Use the free courthouse terminal when a one-time online search will not do. Use the calendar for scheduled matters. Use the clerk for an exact court record or certified-copy path. Keep these Crawford routes separate. That lowers the risk of mistaking a municipal code file for a court docket.

A good Crawford search note is specific. It names the Crawford court level and party spelling. It records any Crawford citation number and whether the Crawford result came from the calendar or the Register of Actions. Keep a Crawford ordinance-text question apart from a Crawford court-copy request. When a Crawford entry is unclear, hand the Crawford County Court clerk the Crawford case number and date range. Do not rely on a municipal-code file to answer a Crawford docket question.
